The TopMBA Career Conference 2010 is a one-day meeting for business leaders and business schools. The conference will explore the importance of ‘responsibility’ to a company’s economic strength and its recruitment brand. CSR, ethics and sustainability are increasingly a deciding factor in the career choices of top talent. This meeting will examine how recruiters and talent development leaders from companies can most effectively work with business schools to recruit and grow future high flyers.

Larry Bridwell is closely involved in CSR, having published two papers recently, "Corporate Social Responsibility and the Global Compact of the United Nations" (to be published in October of this year) and "BMW's Approach to Global Warming: Corporate Social Responsibility or Greenwashing?"  Interestingly in the context of the Career Conference, both papers were inspired by MBA students who wound up doing most of the research and who were designated senior author on both papers.  In addition, a recent MBA Graduate has just been hired to work full-time at the UN Global Compact Office which is the largest organization in the world working on Corporate Social Responsibility.

Professional Experience:
Thirty-five years working and teaching about International Business.
Twelve years in the International Group of General Electric Company in finance, information systems, and marketing.
Twenty-five years at Pace University.
Ten years as an educational consultant at IBM.

Dr. Lyn is the Vice Dean and C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor of Finance and International Financial Services at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business. She specializes in Corporate Governance, Emerging Markets, Agency Theory, and Socially-Responsible Investments. Dr. Lyn has served as Department of Finance Chairperson, Co-Director of the Merrill Lynch Center for the Study of International Financial Services and Markets, and as Editor-in-Chief of Corporate Finance Review. Dr. Lyn has published numerous articles in national and international business journals, as well as having led executive seminars and workshops, and taught undergraduate and graduate classes both here and abroad. She has worked in the financial area for the United Nations in New York and abroad, at Integrated Resources, Inc. and Smith Barney Shearson, and has been a consultant for various companies. Dr. Lyn currently serves on the Boards of the Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union, Global ShareResource Foundation, and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.

Catherine M. Ruvolo directs Executive Development at CIT Group where she uses her in-depth expertise in leadership development to ensure that the senior leaders there are best positioned to perform to their fullest capability.

Prior to this corporate position, Catherine was at West Point for 12 years serving as Psychology Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership. She also taught leader development to future tactical officers through Columbia University.

At West Point and now at CIT, Catherine advises senior leadership on issues of leader development, succession planning, and organizational culture.

Arturo Poire is the Global Head of Talent Management for Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC). MMC is the parent company for Marsh, Mercer, Guy Carpenter and Oliver Wyman. MMC is made up of 50,000 employees located in over 90 countries.

In his current role, Arturo is directly responsible for Global Talent Management for the enterprise. This includes: Succession Management, Talent Reviews, Leadership Development, Organizational Development and Executive Coaching across the 4 Operating Companies. Previous to joining the MMC family in early 2007, Arturo spent 12 years with Citigroup in HR Generalist, Staffing and Talent Management roles and projects globally. The main areas of focus during his years at Citigroup were M&A Integration, Organizational Restructuring, Strategic Staffing and Talent Management.

Arturo holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), and a Master of Business Administration from New York University’s Stern School of Business. In addition he is currently certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with the Society of Human Resource Management and has graduated from the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) professional coaching program. In 2006 Arturo co-authored a career success book for Latinos in the US, “The Latino Advantage in the Workplace – Use who you are to get where you want to be”, published by Sphinx publishing. He lives in New York.

Anna A. Tavis, Ph.D.    
Sr. Director, Executive Talent and Organization Development, AIG

Prior to joining AIG corporate HR team on March 1, 2010, Anna held the position of  VP Talent Management and Organizational Development  for Pine Bridge Investments (formerly AIG Investments).

Anna Tavis was responsible for Global Talent Management, Organization Development and Learning supporting PineBridge Investments (the investment arm of AIG currently divesting from the parent company).
• Her responsibilities at the time of AIG crisis included leading the Organization Change effort through divestiture of the Investments unit, supporting leadership communication, organization redesign and high potential retention initiatives.
• She created and implemented a broad range of Talent Strategies including recruitment and on-boarding, performance management, talent reviews, succession planning,  executive assessments, employee surveys, management and leadership development working  across alternative investments, real estate, and private equity. 

Dr. Tavis has pursued a global, multi-faceted career in the sectors of business, academia, and consulting.   In business, she led the organizational development function for Motorola in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions, based out of the UK. She later transitioned to be the Head of Talent Management for Nokia based out of Finland.   She has worked extensively in Europe, India, Eurasia and the Middle East.

Before joining AIG, Dr. Tavis was leading learning and development at United Technologies Corporation based in Hartford, CT. She was responsible for enterprise-wide global learning and development servicing over 215,000 employees in more than 70 countries.

Dr. Tavis is currently an Adjunct Professor at NYU in the department of Leadership and Human Resource Management. She previously served as Assistant Professor on the faculty of Williams College, Fairfield University, and Columbia University. 

Additionally, she is currently an Editor of People and Strategy Journal, a professional HR publication for Human Resources Planning Society.  She has authored a book and several articles on various aspects of global Talent Management.

Kathrin Winkler, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, EMC Corporation. As Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Kathrin is charged with providing vision and leadership in the development and implementation of EMC’s strategy for environmental and social sustainability. Kathrin teams with functional leaders in EMC’s Green Business Leadership, a cross-functional virtual team that champions company-wide environmental initiatives and works to ensure integration of sustainability principles both in strategy and in day-to-day operations. In her previous role as Sr. Director for EMC’s hardware engineering group, Kathrin founded the company’s Engineering Green Team and its Design for Environment program, which are driving leadership designs in environmental stewardship and energy efficiency throughout EMC’s product portfolio.

Kathrin joined EMC in 2003 as Director, NAS Product Management. Her past positions included Principal Consultant/Analyst specializing in enterprise management systems and service level architectures at Renaissance Worldwide, Vice President Technical Marketing in a Web services security startup, and Consultant Software Engineer in Network Systems Engineering at Digital Equipment Corporation. In addition to her work at EMC, Kathrin serves as a Director of EcoLogic Development Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to community-based conservation in Central America.

Emily Nossan leads the North America recruiting efforts for the Talent and Rewards business segment within Towers Watson, a leading global professional services company with more than 14,000 associates. As a Business Recruiting Leader, she partners directly with senior leadership to define staffing objectives, and then develops and executes recruitment plans to meet those needs. Additionally, she is responsible for leading recruiters and other team members who provide support to these business areas.

Prior to joining Towers Watson, Emily provided HR/Recruitment services to other large professional services firms. She has extensive experience partnering with senior management to create and maintain HR policies and procedures that align with the company’s overall vision, while consulting and coaching front-line supervisors on day-to-day operations.

Ms. Nossan holds a masters degree in Human Resources Management and Development from The New School of Social Research, and a BS in Human Resources from Ithaca College.

Susan is presently a Director and Head of Talent Acquisition for North America for Gartner, Inc. which is the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, headquartered in Stamford, CT.  She is responsible for the development and sustainability of the broad N.A. talent acquisition strategy as well as handling high-level requisitions across the organization.

She began her recruiting career at Salomon Brothers in 1995, where for ten years she led all recruiting, training and placement for campus hires for the Capital Markets Division.  She had transitioned into this area from the production side, where she had previously traded and sold a variety of fixed income securities both at Salomon and at a hedge fund where she was an Executive Vice President.

After Salomon (Citigroup), Susan joined UBS and was the Managing Director  (2005-2009) responsible for the worldwide recruitment, on-boarding and retention of recent graduates for the Global Fixed Income Division.  She was a member of the IB Recruitment Board, The Americas People Committee, the Credit FI Executive Management Committee, and chaired the subcommittee on Diversity recruiting. She also chaired three regional Graduate Steering Committees who oversaw the intake of hundreds of recent graduates.

Susan received her MBA in Finance from the Columbia Graduate School of Business, and her AB in Economics from Smith College. She has two children who are out of the nest and gainfully employed with benefits.

Andrew Cave became the new chair of the UK Network of the UN Global Compact in the spring. The network serves members through regular meetings to share best practices. In addition, working groups are actively engaged in reporting, small and medium-sized enterprises, communications, and liaising with other networks. Andrew has been Head of Sustainability at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, the UK headquartered financial services organisation, for several years. He has an Msc in International Development and a Diploma in Sustainable Business. In addition to his Global Compact role he is also involved with the Steering Committee of the Equator Principles, the financial services industry’s benchmark for social and environmental standards in project finance.

Richard Gunawan is Vice President, Business & Sustainability Development Asia Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance. LRQA is part of the Lloyd’s Register group, a registered charity in the UK. Globally LRQA has verified a number of CSR reports for multinational corporations. Before Richard’s recent appointment to LRQA Hong Kong, he was a part of the LRQA team in Australia. In addition to CSR, Richard has been actively promoting the adoption of international standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 to improve environmental practices and employees’ welfare. Outside his corporate life, Richard dedicates his time to academic institutions in Asia and Australia. He is often invited to speak at university forums and is actively involved in educating students on making a positive contribution to society.

    Dr. A. Scott Carson is Director of the Queen's MBA and a Professor of Strategy at the Queen’s School of Business. Formerly, he was Dean of the School of Business and Economics, and Professor of Business Policy at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. Prior to that, he was Dean of the Sobey School of Business, and Professor of Management at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. As well, he is a past Chair of the Canadian Federation of Business School Deans.

    Dr. Carson has been a member of over a dozen public and private sector boards, he teaches in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy & Business Ethics on several of Queen’s MBA Programs in addition to the Fundamentals of Governance Program at the Queen’s Executive Development Centre.

    Dr. Alan Murray has established a reputation at an international level in the field of Corporate Responsibility, and the second edition of the leading textbook on CR has been commissioned by Oxford University Press (see below). In 2006 he became the founding Chair of the British Academy of Management Special Interest Group (SIG) in CSR and, in association with other members of the SIG, he continues to take a lead in developing and widening the community of researchers and teachers of CR in the UK by organizing conferences and workshops to promote high quality research and teaching in the field.

    He played a major part in the recent successful bid for an ESRC Seminar Series on CSR where, in collaboration with colleagues from Cass, York, Lancaster, the ICAEW, and the British Library, envisioned as a series of innovative and provocative debates involving UK professional bodies, government policy representatives and industry leaders from the UK and abroad. He has held a number of seminars including the British Library in December 2008, the York Management School in March 2009, at the Cass Business School in June 2009, and at St Andrews University School of Management in September 2009.

    His other research interests revolve around capital market engagement with sustainable development, and qualitative research methodology. He recently joined Leeds University Management School as Senior Teaching Fellow, CSR.

Camilla Drejer is responsible for setting Accenture's Corporate Citizenship strategy and defining and driving employee engagement projects spanning community investment, engagement and collaboration (incl. volunteering, pro bono consulting, managing the company’s charitable Foundation) as well as fostering environmental awareness amongst employees and driving continuous improvement.  Camilla joined Accenture and the Corporate Citizenship Team in November 2006 as a corporate citizenship specialist focusing on managing operational aspects of the employee volunteering and giving programmes as well as communications and programme reporting before taking on community relations management and most recently the full Corporate Citizenship piece. 

Camilla holds a degree in Political Science and an MSc in Political Theory and has previous experience of working in the not-for-profit sector and most recently in the UK Parliament prior to joining Accenture.

Originally from Vancouver, Canada, she has worked in the sustainability field for the last 10 years. Mohit Joshi heads business development for the Banking & Capital Markets vertical at Infosys which is their largest Market segment.

Prior to this role, he was responsible for the setup & operations of our new subsidiary in Monterrey, Mexico. In addition to his role as Head of their Latin America subsidiary, he also continued to have responsibility for the Client Management of a large US Bank.

Mohit has significant Financial Services consulting experience with extensive CXO interaction and led several deal teams and managed significant relationships for Infosys.
