What?

QS University Rankings: Latin America™ is part of an expansion to the QS World University Rankings®. Published for the first time in October 4th 2011, this new annual exercise ranks Latin American's top 200 universities.

Why?

The purpose of this ranking is to provide an independent comparison of universities in the region based on a set of criteria that reflects the circumstances and priorities of the countries involved. Latin America is a fast-growing, dynamic region with a young population, and has in recent years seen increasing levels of international student mobility.

How?

The methodology differs somewhat from that used in both QS World University Rankings® and QS Asian University Rankings™. The choice of criteria was based on extensive consultation with the Latin American universities, expert assessment of important factors in the region, and the availability of data. Seven indicators are drawn together to form this new regional ranking:

  • Academic Reputation
  • Employer Reputation
  • Papers per Faculty
  • Citations per Paper
  • Faculty Student Ratio
  • Staff with PHD
  • Web Impact
