Associate Professor Dr Joaquim Dias Soeiro is a hospitality educator, trainer, and consultant with more than two decades of international academic and industry experience mostly from France and Malaysia. Recognised for his dynamic and experiential approach to learning, he specialises in hospitality management, beverage studies, wine education, quality assurance, and capability development within hospitality and tourism organisations.
Deeply engaged in professional training and executive development, Dr. Joaquim has delivered numerous wine and beverage workshops across Malaysia since 2008, including the prestigious Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) programmes. His professional credentials include Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) and Certified in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, HRD Corp Accreditation of the Train-The-Trainer (TTT) certification, Cheese Associate certification from the Academy of Cheese (UK), Level 1 certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers (UK), and Level 3 certification in wine from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (UK).
Beyond training delivery, he is actively involved in academic projects focusing on capability building, curriculum innovation, programme development, and outcome-based education (OBE) implementation with higher education and hospitality institutions. His expertise also extends to experiential learning design, academic quality enhancement, education management, and talent development strategies aligned with industry needs. His research interests encompass wellbeing, sustainability, hospitality and tourism management, wine studies, and emerging trends in space tourism. Through interdisciplinary and industry-focused research, he actively explores future-ready practices that enhance guest experiences, education quality, organisational resilience, and sustainable tourism development.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dias Soeiro has held senior academic leadership positions including Programme Director, Associate Dean (Learning & Quality), Head of Operations & Professional Studies, and Head of a top leading Hospitality School in Malaysia. He currently serves as Deputy Dean (Internationalisation) at the Sunway University, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, where he leads international partnerships and global engagement initiatives that enhance academic excellence and industry collaboration.
