Behrooz Hassani-Mahmooei

Dr Behrooz Hassani-Mahmooei is the Chief Analytics Officer at Monash University, where he leads the Enterprise Intelligence and Insights division. In this role, he oversees the University’s strategic analytics capability, supporting executive decision-making across institutional planning, student load forecasting, performance monitoring and benchmarking, rankings, and broader strategic intelligence.

Behrooz has played a leading role in strengthening Monash’s use of data as a strategic asset, bringing together high-frequency operational insights, external intelligence, and long-term planning analytics to inform university-wide priorities. His work supports senior leadership across areas including student demand and load planning, learning, teaching and research performance, workforce and financial insights, and institutional KPIs.

As the former Chair of the AI Steering Committee, Behrooz also contributed to Monash’s enterprise approach to artificial intelligence, including AI strategy, governance, readiness, and adoption. His work in this area focused on building the institutional conditions required for responsible, scalable, and strategically aligned use of AI across education, research, and operations.

Before his current executive analytics role, Behrooz built a multidisciplinary research profile in agent-based modelling, social simulation, environmental change, migration, injury compensation, and policy dynamics. He completed his PhD at Monash University, with research focused on agent-based modelling of the impacts of climate change on sustainability
