Dr Akito Kamei

Akito Kamei is a full-time research professor at Universidad Panamericana in the School of Government and Economics. His research focuses on development economics, with a particular interest in health, education, and labor markets in low- and middle-income countries. He uses rigorous empirical methods, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and large-scale studies, to answer questions relevant to public policy design.

Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Development Innovation Lab (DIL) at the University of Chicago, led by Michael Kremer. He also worked as a consultant at the UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti, where he conducted research in education. At the Inter-American Development Bank, he evaluated a large-scale government early childhood development program in Nicaragua. Additionally, he collaborated with the World Bank on research regarding urban poverty and labor markets.

Currently, he actively promotes research in Mexico. He is collaborating on a joint education project with UNICEF Mexico and the UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti, and is developing multiple research projects alongside students and collaborators across various departments at Universidad Panamericana.
