Dr Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Rector of Yerevan State University and Doctor of Historical Sciences, specializes in the study of early Christian doctrinal controversies and reform movements within the Armenian Apostolic Church.
He received his Candidate of Historical Sciences degree in 2007 and his Doctor of Historical Sciences degree in 2020.
He began his professional career at Yerevan State University and later continued it at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. He has taught at YSU, Gavar State University, Brusov State University, and the American University of Armenia. In 2018, he served as Deputy Minister of Education and Science; from 2019 to 2021, he was a Member of the National Assembly; and since 2021, he has served as Rector of Yerevan State University.
His academic interests include the history and theory of religion, the phenomenology of religion, and church history. He has undertaken research and training at leading universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany
