Your professional journey
Upon graduating from my alma mater, INTI College Subang Jaya, I began my career as a Programme Officer in 2000. This role sparked my passion for student engagement within the higher education sector.
After four years of professional growth, I pursued a postgraduate Master’s degree in Australia, which further strengthened my commitment to supporting students and led me into international marketing, recruitment, and partnerships for UK universities. Since then, I have continued to specialise in this field while representing several prestigious institutions, and I am currently supporting the University of Birmingham.
Your local market expertise
In Southeast Asia, there is strong demand for employability-focused STEM and Business programmes, alongside a growing shift toward digital-first recruitment and increasing competition from Transnational Education (TNE) providers.
Key challenges include rising regional competition, currency volatility, and evolving UK visa policies, particularly when compared with destinations such as Ireland, Canada, and Germany. There is also increasing competition from Australian universities and growing interest in “Study Asia” destinations such as China and Japan.
Understanding students
Students are increasingly motivated to study abroad to gain a competitive advantage in the global job market, improve employability, and experience personal growth. The UK remains attractive due to its accelerated degree timelines and strong academic reputation.
Students typically combine digital research with personalised counselling when comparing universities. In addition to academic quality, they place strong emphasis on return on investment, including tuition fees, living costs, scholarship opportunities, and long-term career outcomes.
Personal strengths
Success in this role requires a combination of market intelligence, cultural understanding, relationship management, and expertise in navigating different education systems across Southeast Asia.
Purpose and motivation
The most rewarding aspect of my role is helping students realise their academic potential and supporting them through the transition to higher education in the UK. Providing tailored guidance and helping students build confidence in their decisions is especially fulfilling.
Staying current and credible
I stay informed about regional and global higher education trends through industry reports, institutional research, professional networking, and engagement with trained education consultants. I also participate in British Council sessions and regional events to better understand student mobility trends and market developments.
Personal dimension
Networking with peers and regional representatives from UK universities allows me to build meaningful professional relationships and exchange valuable insights. This collaborative approach supports both personal growth and stronger outcomes within the international education sector.
