Makiko Sugiyama began her career at Nikkei Inc. in Tokyo, producing major international business conferences and events.
In 2014, she moved to Singapore with the launch of Nikkei’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, focusing on new business development and executive education initiatives across Asia. In 2017, she relocated to Bangkok, becoming President of Nikkei Business Lab Asia in 2019.
Today, she leads a regional team across Southeast Asia and operates Nikkei BizRuptors—a business case study platform leveraging the trusted reporting of the Nikkei Group, including Nikkei Asia and the Financial Times. Collaborating with business educators globally, she and her team develop business case studies focused on the Asia-Pacific region.
Additionally, she serves as a member of the Asia Pacific Advisory Council (APAC) for the 2025–2027 term.
