Marcela Hernandez is the Chief Data Officer at UBC. She leads a team responsible for UBC’s enterprise data and information strategy. The data governance function ensures data processes and standards are built and reviewed to prevent misuse of institutional data assets.
Marcela was previously the Director for UBC’s Planning and Institutional Research department, where she was responsible for expanding the use of analytics to support strategic planning and improving student success. She is known for her ability to work across the institution with academic and administrative areas to enable the implementation of data governance. In addition to working in the higher education sector, Marcela had previously worked at the Justice Institute of BC.
In addition to her role at UBC, Marcela is also an Adjunct Professor in the Accounting and Information Systems Division at the Sauder School of Business at UBC.
