Dr María Teresa Nicolás Gavilán

María Teresa Nicolás Gavilán holds a Ph.D. in Communication and a Master’s degree in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Navarra (Spain), as well as a Law degree from Universidad Panamericana (Mexico). She has completed additional executive education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), IESE Business School (Spain), and the IPADE Business School (Mexico). Since 2009, she has worked at Universidad Panamericana (Mexico City Campus), where she has served as Director of Graduate Programs and Director of the Undergraduate Degree in Communication, as well as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Educational Innovation (2016–2022). She currently serves as Director of the Institutional Center for Educational Innovation under the General Rectory. She has been a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI) since 2011, currently holding Level II status. She has completed research and teaching fellowships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), Villanova University (United States), Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Italy), and the College of Social and Media Culture (Poland). Since 2010, she has held leadership positions within the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). She is also a Full Member (Miembro de Número) of the Mexican Academy of Communication. Her main areas of research include ethical aspects of communication, educational innovation, and artificial intelligence. In her administrative and executive roles, she has founded and promoted centers dedicated to competency development and learning experiences for both faculty and students. She chairs the university’s first Committee on the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which authored the Ethical AI Framework document. Additionally, she leads the Educational Innovation Strategy across all campuses of Universidad Panamericana. She is a Level C Professor at Universidad Panamericana.
