Prof Cao Jiannong

Professor Cao Jiannong is Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Professor in Data Science, Chair Professor of Distributed and Mobile Computing in the Department of Computing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is the Vice President (Education) and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) at PolyU.  He served as Head of the Department of Computing from 2011 to 2017, Dean of the Graduate School, and Head of the College of Undergraduate Researchers and Innovators (CURI) from 2021 to 2025, and the founding director of Research Institute for AIoT and University Research Facility in Big Data Analytics at PolyU.

Professor Cao’s research interests include big data and AI, edge computing, embodied intelligence and robotics, Web3 and distributed computing.  He published six co-authored and nine co-edited books, along with over 800 papers in major international journals and conference proceedings, and holds 34 patents.  He received many awards for his outstanding research achievements.

Professor Cao is a member of Academia Europaea, a fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering, a fellow of IEEE, a fellow of the CCF, and a distinguished member of the ACM.  He served as the Chair of the Technical Committee on Distributed Computing of the IEEE Computer Society from 2012 to 2014.  In 2017, he received the Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award from the China Computer Federation.

曹建農教授現任香港理工大學潘樂陶慈善基金數據科學教授、電子計算學系分佈式與移動計算講座教授、互聯網和移動計算實驗室主任。他還擔任大學主管教育副校長和高等教育研究發展院院長。曹建農教授曾任電子計算學系系主任，香港理工大學研究生院院長、人工智能與物聯網研究院院長、大數據分析中心實驗室創始人及主任。曹建農教授的研究興趣涵蓋大數據與人工智能、邊緣計算、具身智能與機器人、Web3與分布式計算。由於傑出的研究表現與成就，曹教授獲得諸多獎項與認可. 他曾擔任IEEE計算機學會分布式計算委員會主席。曹教授為歐洲人文和自然科學院院士，香港工程院院士，國際電機電子工程師學會(IEEE)會士，中國計算機學會(CCF)會士，計算機協會(ACM) 傑出會員。
