Prof James Tang

Professor Tang has been the Secretary-General of the University Grants Committee since 2018. He has extensive experience in academic leadership and management at higher education institutions both in Hong Kong and internationally. Prior to his current appointment, he was Dean and Professor of Political Science at the School of Social Sciences and Special Adviser to the President on Greater China affairs at Singapore Management University. Before that, he served at The University of Hong Kong as Head of the Department of Politics and Public Administration, as well as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Over the years, he also held visiting appointments at renowned universities in Chinese Mainland as well as Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States.
