Prof O-bong Yang

Professor Yang O-bong, the 19th President of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), leads one of the Republic of Korea’s flagship national universities. Since taking office in 2023, he has advanced JBNU’s transition into a data- and AI-driven institution, helping secure major national projects valued at more than USD 0.72 billion.

He is currently leading a large-scale Physical AI initiative aligned with the national AI agenda of Lee Jae-myung, the 21st President of the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with prominent universities and industry partners, including KAIST, Hyundai Motor, Samsung, and NAVER. President Yang also established the JBNU-Purdue Research Institute (JPRI) to strengthen global research collaboration.

Over the past three years, President Yang has actively promoted AI-based education, career support(AI-Job), and administration, contributing to broader AI innovation across the university. He remains focused on strengthening JBNU’s core missions of education and research while advancing educational reform and industry collaboration, with the goal of positioning JBNU among the world’s top 100 universities.
