Dr. Kate Newell is Executive Dean of Academic Services at the Savannah College of Art and Design, providing strategic leadership for eleven academic schools and more than 100 academic programs. Her nearly two-decade career at SCAD has been marked by progressive leadership in academic administration, including serving as Chair of the Department of Liberal Arts and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, where she oversaw SCAD’s global libraries and administered the university’s general education program.
Kate holds a PhD in English from the University of Delaware. Her areas of research include adaptation and intersections of literature and visual culture. She is the author of Expanding Adaptation Networks: From Illustration to Novelization, has contributed chapters to leading collections including The Oxford Handbook of Adaptation Studies and The Palgrave Handbook of Intermediality, and published essays on the topics of adaptation, illustration as adaptation, and intermediality.
