Dr Miri Firth leads in Employability & Flexible Assessment in Higher Education and is based at the University of Manchester, UK. Her research explores how universities can design inclusive, flexible, and authentic approaches to assessment that maintain academic standards while preparing graduates for an increasingly complex and AI- enabled world. She serves on several national advisory boards, helping to shape policy and practice in higher education, particularly in assessment, student success, and graduate employability.

Dr Firth has led institutional initiatives to develop assessment and feedback practices that better reflect the diverse ways students demonstrate learning, with a particular emphasis on equity, graduate capability, and evidence-informed educational change. She works closely with academic colleagues to support curriculum transformation and has contributed to national and international conversations on assessment reform, student success, and the impact of generative AI on higher education.

A frequent speaker at sector conferences and events, Dr Firth is particularly interested in how universities can rethink assessment to ensure it remains rigorous, meaningful, and trusted by students, educators, employers, and society. Her work seeks to bridge research, policy, and practice to shape the future of learning and assessment in higher education.
