Jonathan Noble serves as the Senior Assistant Provost for Internationalization, Global Executive Director, and Deputy to the Vice President and Associate Provost at Notre Dame Global (NDG). In these roles, he supports the leadership of NDG’s global network—including 12 international locations and five functional units—and serves as NDG’s deputy to internal and external partners. He leads NDG’s academic affairs, strategy, and innovation, guiding the global innovation team to advance international scholarship, research, and faculty engagement in support of the University’s strategic priorities.
Prior to his current appointment, Noble served as Assistant Provost for Asia, founding Notre Dame’s Beijing location and the Greater China Scholars Program. He previously advised the Provost’s Office on Asia initiatives, helped establish the Liu Institute for Asia & Asian Studies, and served as acting director of the Liu Institute. A teaching professor for NDG and faculty fellow in several institutes across the university, he actively contributes to campus-wide research and program committees.
Noble’s research and teaching focus on contemporary Chinese culture and society, and he has published over 50 articles, essays, and translations. He was named an inaugural fellow in the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations’ Public Intellectuals Program. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary and his doctorate from The Ohio State University.
