Nelson Ribeiro is Vice-Rector for Transformation, Collaboration and International Affairs at the Catholic University of Portugal, where he oversees the university’s strategy on internationalisation and diversity. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences from 2016 to 2025.

A Professor of Communication and Media Studies, Nelson Ribeiro has published extensively on propaganda, disinformation, and media and colonialism. His most recent book, co- edited with Barbie Zelizer, is Media and Propaganda in an Age of Disinformation (Routledge, 2025). He is a member of Academia Europaea and serves as an affiliated researcher and member of the Ethics Committee of the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE). Since 2018, he has directed the Lisbon Winter School for the Study of Communication, jointly organised by the Catholic University of Portugal and the Center for Media@Risk (University of Pennsylvania), in coordination with the Annenberg Schools at the University of Southern California and the University of Pennsylvania, the School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Helsinki, and The Europaeum. He was a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and a visiting professor at several universities across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
