Professor Lau has been engaged in product design, engineering and higher education sectors for over 25 years. He is currently the President of Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), Chair Professor of Product Innovation, and a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prior to assuming the role of the President, he was Pro Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, to oversee research and development of the University, with a focus on international research engagement and partnership, the University’s ranking strategy and business development in the Asia Pacific region. He is currently leading two research/engineer teams to collaborate with China industry on hydrogen energy and re-purpose of retired EV battery projects. He developed high-strength carbon fibre for type-4 hydrogen tank productions (70MPa). His EV project also covers the development of a new generation of robotic EV chargers and EV battery swap stations.
