Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant is currently the Director of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee since October 2022. He earned his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1997. Prof. Pant is full time Professor at IIT Delhi and currently Director at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee on deputation. With an illustrious academic career spanning over three decades, Professor Kamal Kishore Pant’s research encompasses heterogeneous catalysis, clean energy and circular economy principles, focusing on developing carbon-efficient and self-sufficient solutions to strengthen India’s energy security and environmental resilience. Prof. Pant’s expertise lies in fundamental to translational research and disruptive innovations that have been instrumental in materializing industrial–academic collaborations for transformative contributions in coal-to-value added chemicals, green hydrogen production, carbon capture and utilization (CCU), and waste-to-wealth technologies. Prof. Pant spearheads a diverse and expansive research group, having supervised more than 50 PhD scholars and 95 Master’s to date. With more than 320 publications, 16 patents, >25,500 citations, and an h-index of 81, his visionary focus on applied science and technology has driven the development of several pioneering technologies. Cumulatively, Prof. Pant has initiated and executed over 50 high-impact projects and consultancies, with grants and project funding exceeding ₹100 crores, supported by premier Government/Industries organizations. Prof. Pant’s group has successfully demonstrated pilot-scale facilities on e-waste pyrolysis and plastic-to-fuel conversion, alongside scalable catalytic routes for converting coal and biomass into methanol and value-added chemicals. Prof. Pant has been recipient of several national awards which include : Distinguished Alumni Award HBTU-Kanpur 2022, Prof. K. L. Chopra Applied Research Award for distinguished in applied research by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi 2021, CHEMCON distinguished speaker (CDS) award in 2019 and Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao Medal and CHEMCON HEMCON Distinguished Speaker Award, Constituted by SOLENIS Corporation, 2024 (IIChE award), Herdilia Award for Excellence in Basic Research in Chemical Engineering by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2017, three times Dr. A. V. Rama Rao award for best Ph.D. supervised and Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award – 2019, 2020 and 2024 etc. Prof. Pant has been serving as expert member for several national and International scientific research and Academic bodies of repute. Also, Prof. Pant is an honorary Faculty at the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia and is a visiting professor at Auburn University USA, Tuskegee USA, University of Saskatchewan Canada, Aston University UK., UNSW Australia, University of Utah, USA. Besides his research, Prof. Pant has made significant contributions to scientific research advancement and knowledge dissemination in India, as an expert member of numerous national and international committees. Through his extensive translational research and industry engagements, he has also held several prestigious positions such as the Chair Professor Federation of Indian Petroleum Industries for 13 years. He is a fellow of various academic and research academies including elected fellow of the National Academy of Science India NASI, Indian National Academy of Engineering, INAE, Royal Society of Chemistry London, among others.
