Prof Matthias Ruth

Professor Ruth is Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, as well as Professor in Economics at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. He previously served at the University of York in the UK as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, and as Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Professor of Economics at the University of Alberta, Canada. Professor Ruth also held senior positions in the USA at Northeastern University, University of Maryland, and Boston University, leading programs in environmental policy and engineering. He has published more than 20 books and over 150 academic papers and book chapters, contributing significantly to the fields of environmental economics and sustainable development. He is a member of the editorial board of several leading journals and collaborates extensively with scientists and policy makers worldwide.
