Prof. TieJun (TJ) Zhang is the Director of International Relations under the Office of the President and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Khalifa University (KU) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is a Member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists (UAE's National Academy) and Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He was the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies at KU’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and the Visiting Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in USA. As one of World’s Top 2% Scientists and innovator, he has over 100 peer-reviewed journal publications and 10 international patents/inventions. As an educator, he has mentored over 60 PhD & MSc students and many research staffs as well as intern students. Prof. Zhang is the recipient of the UAE National Research Foundation University-Industry Research Collaboration Award and the Abu Dhabi Award for Research Excellence. In 2025, his team won the 1st Place of the renowned Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award for their Innovative Research and Development. He has been the Steering Committee Member of several R&D programs and the Principal Investigator of many research projects (~US$15 millions) on energy, water and micro/nanotechnologies. Prof. Zhang is recognized as an Outstanding Associate Editor by ASME and the Executive Board Member of Asian Union of Thermal Science and Engineering (AUTSE).
