Reflections of the NEP: 5 years on

Join us for an engaging conversation with QS Executive Directors Selma Toohey and Ashwin Fernandes as we explore the impact and progress of India’s ambitious National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, five years since its launch.
This one-hour session will reflect on the developments and reforms shaped by the NEP, the opportunities it presents for UK universities, and insights gathered from conversations with Vice Chancellors across both India and the UK over the past five years.
Following senior positions in international offices at UK and US universities, Selma has extensive experience across operational development, sales and marketing in the global education environment. Her expertise lies in student recruitment in emerging markets, driving revenue to support University expansion, transformation, global reputation and rankings, and keeping student success - always - at heart.
During his professional engagement, Dr Fernandes has met with senior leaders from the region and is often invited to speak at several conferences and events on university rankings, ratings, education, higher education etc. He has been a panellist on various discussion forums and presented his recommendations on thought provoking topics related to higher education. Dr Fernandes championed the need for an independent rankings framework for the Arab Region and hence was instrumental in developing the QS Arab Region University Rankings in 2014/15. He also founded India’s first nationwide private sector evaluation framework called QS I-GAUGE.
Andy worked at 3 UK universities in international student recruitment and partnership roles for 16 years before joining QS in 2021. He leads the UK & Ireland client facing team with particular expertise on optimising the student journey on behalf of QS's partners and believes that every student deserves personalised and premium support during their daunting admissions journey.
