The QS World University Rankings: Sub-Saharan Africa will join our suite of Rankings, with its first edition launching in February 2026.

At the QS Africa Forum 2025, Jason Newman, QS Chief Commercial Officer, said in his opening remarks: “By 2050, Sub-Saharan Africa will account for nearly a quarter of the world’s working age population. China and India and many other areas of the world are expecting a decline in this age group. Now is a real moment for higher education in Africa, an opportunity to bring higher education to the forefront of policy and demonstrate the role it can play in driving economic transformation and creating a sustainable and inclusive future for all.”

To ensure the QS World University Rankings: Sub-Saharan Africa is relevant and useful for policymakers, universities and students, we have consulted with the region’s universities and governments.

How will the QS World University Rankings: Sub-Saharan Africa differ from other rankings?

The QS World University Rankings: Sub-Saharan Africa will use the same indicators as our other rankings, but the weighting of indicators will be different to reflect the measures regional stakeholders have identified as most important.
