Each of the QS rankings are compiled using a core methodology that uses a range of vital factors including student experience, university partnerships, research activity, academic and employer reputation, and faculty qualifications.
All of our data is based on high-quality research and innovative analytic approaches. The QS rankings provide methodical evaluations of key areas in higher education institutions, ultimately offering potential students expert advice that’s proven to align them with their chosen path.
The QS World University Rankings are compiled by our data analysts in partnership with tens of thousands of higher education institutions. They incorporate datapoints from 16.4 million academic papers as well as the views of more than 151,000 academics and 101,038 employers.

Not all higher education institutions are eligible for our rankings, and not all eligible institutions are ranked. QS rankings are designed to evaluate and compare broadly similar types of institutions, and each of our rankings has different eligibility criteria. 2. How can my institution start engaging with the QS Rankings?
Explore the QS World University Rankings suite and understand the rankings you are eligible for. Each of the QS World University Rankings measure different segments of higher education. Whether we’re ranking universities, business schools, the subjects institutions teach, or their sustainability performance – each ranking requires slightly different data. 3. When should I start submitting the data for the QS rankings cycle?
Our precise data collection timeline changes each year, but generally we follow a similar schedule:
- Survey contacts submission: September – January
- Academic & Employer Surveys: November – April
- Institutional data submission: September – February
- Sustainability data submission: January – April
