Rankings debate alive at Going Global conference...

by Ben Sowter

Just a quick post to point out an interesting debate that took place this week at the British Council's Going Global conference. The various viewpoints are from QS, Times Higher Education, the Vice-Chancellors of UCL and Universiti Sains Malaysis and Kevin Downing from the City University of Hong Kong. It's a balanced picture with a range of differing viewpoints from those of the rankers to those of critics and tentative supporters.

Malcolm Grant's contribution is available to watch here http://www.policyreview.tv/video/530/3233 but the other presenters are just a click away if you're interested in the full picture.

Since transparency is raised a lot in these presentations it seems pertinent to point out that QS provides individual and extensive indices on all the indicators used to build its rankings - this seems a fundamental requirement for any ranking that might claim to be responsible and transparent.
