Rankings revealed: 2022 QS World University Rankings Arab Region

Here’s our guide to the higher education institutions leading the way in the Arab region this year:  

The 2022 QS Arab region university rankings are now live, with King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, retaining the top spot from the previous year.  

The university received perfect scores for its academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty. 

In second, rising one spot from the previous year, is Qatar University which received 100, a perfect score, for its number of staff with a PhD, and a near-perfect score of 99.8 for its measure of papers per faculty. 

Also rising by one position, from fourth to third, is King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, receiving a perfect score and ranking highly for its number of papers per faculty. 

However, it scored only 37.6 for its ratio of international students, highlighting this area as one for improvement.  

Falling by two places from the previous rankings, from second to fourth, is the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.  

The university received perfect scores for its web impact and for the number of staff that hold a PhD, but the size of its international student body, rated at only 45.8, was identified as an area for improvement. 

There was no movement in either fifth or sixth position from the previous year, with United Arab Emirates University retaining the fifth spot and King Saud University taking sixth.  

Ranking seventh this year is Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, which was awarded high scores for its number of staff with PhDs (100) and its international research network (99.8), although it received a score of just 11 for its ratio of international students. 

Ranking eighth this year is the American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, which received perfect scores for its international faculty and student body, as well as the number of staff holding PhDs. 

Khalifa University of Science and Technology in the United Arab Emirates and the University of Jordan were awarded ninth and tenth positions respectively in the 2022 rankings; no movement from the previous year.
